LIC ADO — What the syllabus covers

The 2023 notification names the sections and the 2019 and 2023 papers fill them in. The prelims is a speed paper at a level below bank PO; the mains combines aptitude, general awareness and a section on insurance and marketing that carries more than a third of the marks.

Reasoning Ability (prelims 35; mains, shared 50)

  • Puzzles and seating arrangement — linear, circular and floor puzzles of moderate difficulty.
  • Syllogism, inequality, coding-decoding, alphanumeric series — the quick marks of the prelims.
  • Blood relations, direction sense, order and ranking, analogy — two to four questions each.

Numerical Ability (prelims 35; mains, shared 50)

  • Simplification, approximation, number series — speed questions.
  • Arithmetic — percentages, ratio, averages, profit and loss, interest, time and work, speed and distance.
  • Data interpretation — one or two simple table or bar-chart sets.

English Language (prelims 30, qualifying; mains within the 50-mark GK and English section)

  • Reading comprehension, cloze, error spotting, fillers, para-jumbles — grammar and vocabulary at a moderate level.

General Knowledge and Current Affairs (mains, within 50)

  • Six months of current affairs — appointments, awards, schemes, sports, summits.
  • Static GK — polity, geography, history basics, important days, books.

Insurance and Financial Marketing Awareness (mains 60)

  • LIC — history since 1956, organisation, plans, subsidiaries, listing, slogans and initiatives.
  • Life-insurance concepts — premium, sum assured, maturity, surrender, riders, nomination, ULIPs, annuities, claims, underwriting.
  • Agency and marketing — the agent’s role, commission, IRDAI’s agent regulations, need-based selling, customer service, bancassurance, market segmentation.
  • IRDAI and the financial sector — the regulator’s functions, recent regulations, RBI, SEBI, PFRDA, banks and NBFCs, government insurance and pension schemes.

Agents and employees

sit the mains only; the same 160-question paper, so the insurance section is where an agent’s field knowledge is worth marks.
