APPSC Group 3 — Using mock tests as a measurement

A Group 3 mock has to be two papers, because the examination is, and the second paper has to be about panchayat raj and rural development in Andhra Pradesh, because that is half the marks. A general studies mock alone measures half the preparation and hides the half that separates candidates.

A routine built around the scheme

  1. A full two-paper mock every week 300 questions in 300 minutes, scored with a third of a mark off per wrong answer.
  2. A rural development sectional midweek Fifty questions in fifty minutes on panchayat raj law, schemes, the rural economy and local-body finance. This is the half that improves fastest, because the material is finite.
  3. A screening-format paper monthly 75 and 75 in 150 minutes — the same subjects at half the length, which is what the first stage actually looks like.
  4. A penalty audit after every paper Compare the score you got with the score you would have had on unanswered guesses. If the guesses are costing you, change the rule you guess by.

Build the rural development mocks yourself if none exist

Commercial mock series rarely include a paper on rural development with special reference to Andhra Pradesh, because the recruitment is infrequent. The syllabus headings and the 2016 screening paper are enough to write question sets from: fifty questions on the Panchayat Raj Act, fifty on schemes, fifty on the rural economy of the state. A set you wrote from the state’s own documents is closer to the paper than a generic panchayat raj quiz.
