The planning rule is arithmetic. A candidate at 60 in Part A and 90 in Parts B and C is at 150 and qualified; a candidate at 120 in Part A and 60 in Parts B and C is at 180 and ahead. Tamil is the larger and the more improvable half, and it is the half candidates from a general studies background under-prepare.

Rules worth reading twice

  • The blank-answer deduction — half a mark for every unanswered question. Option E exists to be darkened.
  • No typing test — typewriting and shorthand certificates are qualifications; the commission tests nothing.
  • Verification is onscreen first — documents uploaded within a window after the rank list; missing that window is missing the post.
  • Counselling runs in phases — four in the 2025 cycle across eight months, with the forest posts on their own track.

TNPSC revises paper structure, marks, syllabus detail and eligibility between recruitment cycles, and has done so more than once in recent years — the Tamil eligibility component itself is a recent addition.
