Andhra Pradesh Technical Posts — How the paper is structured

What each stage contributes.
StageCounts?What it decides
Screening test, when heldNoWho is admitted to the main examination in very large fields
Qualifying language paper or essay, forest postsNoWhether the marked papers are evaluated at all
Paper I general studiesYes — 150 marksA third of the AEE total, half of the AE total
Subject papersYes — 150 to 450 marksThe rest, and the larger share
Walking test and medical board, forest postsNoWhether a ranked candidate proceeds
Computer proficiency testNo — qualifyingWhether a ranked candidate is appointed

The planning rule follows from the weights. General studies is the shared paper and rewards a general routine; the subject paper is the larger share and rewards discipline-specific depth at the right standard. The qualifying stages add nothing to the rank but remove candidates from it, and deserve enough preparation to pass comfortably.

Rules worth reading twice

  • The penalty is a third of the question’s marks — on a 300-mark subject paper of two-mark questions, that is two-thirds of a mark per wrong answer.
  • Qualifying marks are on the aggregate — 40, 35 and 30 per cent by category — not per paper, unlike the police recruitment.
  • Selection is written merit plus proficiency test — the notifications say so in terms. There is no interview.
  • The forest language paper is qualified individually — English and Telugu each, before the marked papers count.

Confirm the structure against your own notification

APPSC revises paper structure, marks, syllabus detail and eligibility between recruitment cycles, and has done so more than once in recent years. Everything here describes the shape the recruitment has held; the notification for the cycle you are sitting is the document that decides it. Read it end to end before you plan around any figure.
