TNPSC Group 1 — Reading previous papers properly

The commission’s descriptive-papers page holds the Group 1 mains — the Tamil eligibility test and General Studies I, II and III — for the cycles examined in December 2025, December 2024, August 2023, March 2022 and July 2019. Its answer-keys page holds the prelims papers with final keys for 2025, 2024, 2022, 2021, 2019, 2017, 2015, 2014 and 2013. That is enough to see how the descriptive questions are phrased, how the Tamil Nadu units are set, and how the prelims weights have held.

How to work the archive

  • Write the mains papers to time, by hand — three hours, the question paper’s own word limits, then compare with the next cycle’s paper to see what recurs.
  • Sit the prelims papers with the blank rule — option E for every unknown, half a mark off for every blank, no penalty for a wrong answer. The habit is the point.
  • Track the Tamil Nadu questions across cycles — the economy and administration unit and the history and movements unit are ninety questions a paper. Collected across cycles, they are a syllabus of what the commission actually asks.
  • Work the Tamil eligibility papers early — five cycles of them show the level — SSLC — and the composition tasks. The gate is the easiest paper in the archive to prepare from.
