Mains — General Studies I
Modern history of India and Indian culture; the history, culture, heritage and socio-political movements of Tamil Nadu; general science and its applications; and current events of national and international importance.
Mains — General Studies II
The Indian polity and the Constitution; governance and public administration in India and Tamil Nadu; social justice, welfare and the state’s development programmes; and India’s external relations.
Mains — General Studies III
The Indian economy and the economy of Tamil Nadu; development administration in the state; geography of India and Tamil Nadu; environment, disaster management and technology in development.

Read the two Tamil Nadu units of the prelims as instructions. Ninety of the 175 general studies questions are about the state — its economy and administration, its history and its movements — and no national material covers them at the depth the paper asks. The mains extends the same two areas across all three papers.
