TGPSC Group 1 Mock Tests

A Group 1 mock has to do two different jobs, because the examination has two different formats. Treating both as the same exercise is why mock scores and mains results diverge.

TGPSC Group 1 — Using mock tests as a measurement

For the prelims, a mock is a measurement instrument: sit it to time, score it honestly, and read the result as a list of topics rather than as a mark. For the mains, a mock is a writing session — a full paper answered by hand in the allotted time, which is uncomfortable enough that most candidates avoid doing it often enough.

A mock routine that covers both formats

  1. One full prelims mock a week, from six months out Full length, single sitting, no pauses. The score matters less than the pattern of what you left blank.
  2. One handwritten mains answer a day, from the start A single question, twenty minutes, written by hand. Daily practice at this scale builds speed faster than occasional full papers do.
  3. One full mains paper a fortnight, once the prelims is behind you Three hours, by hand, in one sitting. This is the rehearsal that decides whether you finish the real paper.
  4. A movement-paper mock of its own It is the paper with the least available practice material, and the one where a well-prepared candidate gains most.

Score the writing, not just the content

When you review a handwritten answer, mark three things separately: whether it answered the question asked, whether its structure is visible at a glance, and whether it finished inside the time. Content gaps are the easiest of the three to fix and the least likely to be what is costing you marks.

How to read a Group 1 mock result. The score is the least informative number on the sheet.
What you observeWhat it usually meansWhat to change
High accuracy, low attemptsYou are reading every option before committing. Knowledge is fine; decision speed is not.Practise a fixed commit rule on questions you know, to buy minutes for the ones you do not.
High attempts, low accuracyYou are guessing past the point where the guess is informed.Mark every question you guessed and study only those topics. Do not raise attempts further.
Telangana questions missed disproportionatelyThe state layer is the gap, and it is the one national material will not close.Move state history, geography and the movement to the front of the daily schedule for a month.
Mains answers unfinishedWriting speed rather than knowledge — the most common single failure in this examination. One handwritten answer daily at twenty minutes, every day, until the paper finishes itself.
Essay marked lower than expectedUsually structure and balance rather than content.Plan for five minutes before writing, and keep the plan visible in the margin.

A mains mock is only a mock if it is written by hand, to time, in one sitting, and then marked by someone who is not you — or, failing that, marked by you a week later when you have forgotten what you meant to say. An answer that made sense while you were writing it and does not make sense seven days on is an answer a marker would also have failed to follow.
