TGPSC Group 1 Previous Papers

The paper archive is the most honest description of this examination that exists. It is also the only place the Telangana movement paper has been defined in practice rather than in syllabus lines.

TGPSC Group 1 — Reading previous papers properly

Papers issued under the TSPSC name are the same examination. The commission was renamed with the state style in 2024, and the syllabus, structure and standard carried across unchanged. Discarding the older archive because of the label removes most of the available evidence about how this paper behaves.

What to extract, in order

  • The Telangana share of the prelims paper — count the questions across several years that could not have been answered from national material. That count is your minimum state-specific study target.
  • The framing of the mains questions — note whether a question asks you to describe, examine, critically examine or discuss. The verb sets the structure of a scoring answer, and it recurs.
  • The recurring anchors of the movement paper — the Gentlemen’s Agreement, the Six-Point Formula, the 1969 agitation, the revival from 2001 onwards. They come back in different framings, so learn them as an argument you can rebuild rather than as dates.
  • The data interpretation questions inside the science paper — a predictable, learnable block of marks that arts graduates often concede without trying.
  • Where the essay topics came from — state policy, social questions and national debates, in roughly stable proportions.

Work the mains papers by writing full answers to time rather than by reading model answers. Reading a good answer teaches you what one looks like; writing a bad one under a clock teaches you what your own pace is, which is the thing the examination actually tests.

Building a Group 1 question ledger

  1. Take one paper and one spreadsheet. One row per question. Columns: year, stage, paper, subject, narrow topic, the instruction verb for mains questions, and whether you could answer it today.
  2. Tag topics narrowly. “Six-Point Formula” rather than “Telangana movement”; “Finance Commission” rather than “polity”. A tag broad enough to cover forty questions tells you nothing about where to study.
  3. Repeat across as many cycles as the archive holds. Papers issued under the TSPSC name belong in the same ledger. The commission was renamed with the state style in 2024; the examination it conducts did not change with the letterhead.
  4. Sort by tag count and read the top twenty rows. That list is the syllabus in the order the commission actually weights it, which is not the order the syllabus document prints it in.
  5. Then sort by the “could I answer this today” column. High frequency plus low confidence is the highest-return study available to you. Work down that list and nothing else until it is short.

The ledger has a second use that matters more at the mains. Group the mains questions by their instruction verb — describe, examine, critically examine, discuss, analyse — and write down what each demands structurally. “Examine” wants the case and the counter-case; “critically examine” wants a judgement at the end; “discuss” tolerates breadth. Markers are reading for whether you obeyed the verb, and the verbs recur far more predictably than the topics do.
