TGPSC Group 4 Preparation

Most Group 4 plans put general studies first because it feels like the real paper. That is the wrong way round for a recruitment decided at a high cutoff.

TGPSC Group 4 — How to prepare

A six-month plan

  1. Months one to two — secretarial abilities, as the main subject Reasoning families, arithmetic topics, comprehension technique and the whole computer syllabus. This is the paper you can finish, so finish it first.
  2. Months one to six — Telangana content, weekly Geography, history, culture, state policies and the statehood movement. The largest predictable block in Paper I.
  3. Months two to four — the general studies spine Polity, modern history, economy, geography and science, at the level the paper actually asks rather than at Group 1 depth.
  4. Months three to six — current affairs daily Twenty minutes, national and state together, in your own notes.
  5. Months five to six — mocks and revision only Two full papers a week, an error log reread before each, and shrinking revision notes.

One thing not to spend time on is typing practice. The Group 4 scheme has no skill test and no post code in the last cycle required a typewriting qualification — that requirement belongs to Group 3, for the Junior Assistant cum Typist post code, and there it is a certificate to hold before applying rather than a test to prepare for.

Apply across the groups in the same cycle

The general studies half of Group 4 preparation is the same material Groups 2 and 3 examine. Candidates who are eligible commonly apply to all three in a cycle, and the additional work for each is the paper structure rather than the syllabus.

The accumulating half
General studies, current affairs and the Telangana layer. Built by daily contact over months, largely immune to cramming, and the half that also serves Group 2 and Group 3 if you apply to them.
The drillable half
Secretarial abilities. Built by short daily repetition, improves quickly, decays quickly, and is where a candidate with less time can still gain ground fast.
The finishing month
No new material. Revision of your own notes, weekly full mocks, and the error log worked backwards from the most recent mock. The purpose of the final month is retention and pace, not coverage.

Check the qualification clause for your post code, not for the group

Group 4 is graduate-level throughout, but the requirement is set per post code rather than once for the recruitment. In the last cycle some post codes wanted a commerce degree, one wanted B.Com (Computers), and the Ward Officer posts wanted a graduate with a minimum aggregate. A few post codes are reserved for women, and two carry physical measurement requirements. None of that is visible in the general eligibility paragraph — it is in the notification’s own post-code table, which is the part worth reading line by line before you choose what to apply for.
