TGPSC Group 4 Study Material

One paper needs sources; the other needs practice sets. Buying more of the wrong one is the usual mistake.

TGPSC Group 4 — Study material for this exam

For Paper I

  • Telangana state board textbooks — the best single source for state history, geography and civics, at close to the examined level.
  • One polity reference — read for the structure of government, rights and duties, and constitutional bodies rather than for exhaustive detail.
  • A current-affairs note kept by you — national and Telangana developments, a page a day, revised weekly. Compilations bought in the last month do not stick.
  • The state’s own policy documents — for the schemes and programmes the syllabus names explicitly.

For Paper II

  • A reasoning practice book worked cover to cover — chosen for the number of solved sets rather than for its explanations.
  • School arithmetic, drilled — percentages, ratio, averages, interest, time and work. Speed comes from familiarity, not from technique.
  • Comprehension and rearrangement sets, daily — ten minutes a day is enough, and it compounds.
  • A basic computer awareness list — closed syllabus, learnable in a few weeks, and worth completing rather than sampling.

One book per subject, revised four times

Group 4 is decided by recall under time pressure, and recall comes from repetition rather than from coverage. A candidate who reads one polity reference four times will outscore one who reads four references once, because the second has met more material and remembers less of it. Choose the source early, accept that it is imperfect, and spend the time saved on revision and mocks.

Where to get abilities practice that resembles the paper

  • The commission’s own past papers, across every group — the closest match to the question forms and the phrasing you will meet. Exhaust these before buying anything.
  • Any standard reasoning and arithmetic question bank — for volume. The topics are common to competitive examinations generally, so the source matters less than the number of questions worked.
  • A calculation drill you make yourself — tables to twenty, squares to thirty, common fraction-to-percentage equivalents. Fifteen minutes a day, on paper, without a calculator.
  • Reading practice in your chosen medium — a newspaper page a day, timed, in the language you will sit the paper in. It serves comprehension, sentence re-arrangement and current affairs at once.

Resist buying a Group 4-specific compilation as the primary source. These recruitments draw on the same general studies and abilities material as the rest of the commission’s papers, and a compilation assembled for one recruitment is usually thinner on each subject than a standard subject text. Use one reliable book per subject, and let the past papers rather than a guide decide how much of each subject to revise.
