TGPSC Group 4 Mock Tests

When lakhs of candidates sit two short objective papers, the exam measures reliability rather than ceiling. Mocks are how reliability is built.

TGPSC Group 4 — Using mock tests as a measurement

The number to watch in a Group 4 mock is not the score but the error type. A candidate losing marks to unknown facts needs to study; a candidate losing them to slips needs to slow down by a few seconds a question. Those are opposite remedies, and applying the wrong one is the most common way a plateau sets in.

A twelve-week testing plan

  1. Weeks one to four — sectional tests only Reasoning, arithmetic, comprehension and computers separately, twenty minutes each, several times a week. Build the skills before testing them together.
  2. Weeks five to eight — one full paper a week Both papers, back to back, to time. Analyse for twice as long as you wrote.
  3. Weeks nine to twelve — two full papers a week Plus a state-content sectional test in between. No new material in this phase.
  4. Throughout — an error log One line per wrong answer with its cause. Reread it before every mock. This single habit fixes more marks than additional study does.

What a plateau usually means

Group 4 scores commonly stall for weeks and then move suddenly. A plateau almost never means you need more material; it usually means the error mix has shifted from knowledge gaps to slips, and slips respond to pace rather than to study. If your error log shows more careless mistakes than unknown facts for three mocks running, slow down by a few seconds a question and watch the score before adding anything new to read.

Reading a Group 4 mock, paper by paper.
What the result showsWhat it meansWhat to do about it
General studies fine, abilities poorThe common shape. Knowledge accumulated, skill never drilled.Fifteen minutes daily on one abilities family, rotating. Stop adding general studies material for a month.
Abilities fine, general studies poorCoverage gaps, usually in current affairs and the state layer.Finish subjects one at a time; keep a monthly current-affairs consolidation rather than a daily diary.
Both papers fine on topic tests, both poor on full papersPacing. You are working comfortably rather than at exam speed.Practise at the paper’s real seconds-per-question, which will feel uncomfortably fast at first.
Accuracy falling in the last quarter of a paperConcentration, not knowledge.Full-length sittings without breaks, and the same time of day as the examination.
A plateau across several weeksRevision has replaced learning.Switch from reading to solving. Score movement comes from questions attempted, not pages reread.

Because Group 4 has only two papers, a full mock is short enough to sit weekly without disrupting a working week — which removes the usual excuse. Weekly full mocks from three months out, each followed the same evening by an error log, is a routine that fits around a job and outperforms sporadic long study sessions.
